A group of Amigos for Christ
Board members, staff, missionaries and friends
were privileged to attend the dedication of
Villa Catalina on December 7, 2006.
Community members chose their new homes through
a lottery 2 weeks before and had already settled
in with their families. The dedication coincided
with the Marian religious feast of La
Purissima and the families were joyous.
Reverend Jimmy Adams, a founding member of
Amigos for Christ, cut the symbolic ribbon at
the entrance to the village and everyone
processed to a stage beneath the water tower.
Rossanna Canales, our Youth Programs
Director in Nicaragua, sang the American and
Nicaraguan national anthems. John Bland
introduced the Amigos Board members and staff to
the villagers and called the female members of
each household up to receive their house deeds.
The absolute elation on their faces will remain
with us forever. Each family received a gift
box, filled with basic household items and a
bible from donor families in the Atlanta area as
a remembrance. The program was spiced up with
young dancers performing to the pulsating
rhythms of their native music. Community members
such as Gladys Rivas, thanked Amigos for
Christ for its prayers and support through the
last 3 years. As darkness enveloped Villa
Catalina, fireworks and merriment filled the
night air. We wish you all could have been there
with us!
