Medical care in an
impoverished area of Nicaragua was significantly improved when
St. Martin de Porres Surgical Hospital at
Betania, Chinandega opened its doors in August 2002, through the
generosity of our donors. It is a clean, spacious and accommodating
facility by Nicaraguan standards. We are blessed to have a team of
dedicated doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, technicians and
translators, who volunteer their time and services there. Rotating
teams of ophthalmologists, general, plastic and orthopedic surgeons
from around the United States perform hundreds of life-saving
procedures on a population of poor people with no other access to
medical care.
Our doctors work in
partnership with the INSS (the Nicaraguan government social health
agency), which assists us with transportation, patient pre-screening
and follow-up. Fundacion 2001, another partner, administers the
hospital with us. Our efforts have received national acclaim in
Nicaragua. We have been featured in La Prensa
newspaper.
Our medical directors are
Richard L. Nutt, M.D. and Denise Miller
Incorvia, M.D. They invite qualified medical personnel to
join them on a surgical team. You will be asked to submit your
curriculum vitae, a copy of your diploma, a copy of your current
medical or nursing license, and a copy of your passport. For more
information, please contact our office at (770) 614-9250 or e-mail
