The Problem |
|
There are
few health care resources available
in the Chinandega area. We constructed a health
clinic at Santa Matilde, to serve 360 families
and employ a doctor to treat the sick and give
preventative health information. We also employ
a community coordinator to manage the patients.
Amigos for Christ assumes the ongoing costs to
operate the health clinic. |
| |
|
OUR Approach |
|
Amigos for Christ will continue to
provide family practice services
in Santa Matilde. The clinic serves as a base
for volunteer community members, Nicaraguan aid
workers, and Amigos for Christ medical personnel
to serve those that have limited alternatives. |
|
|
|
|
|
Why |
|
2.7 million people in Nicaragua have very little or no access to
medicine and doctors.
Poor health conditions become worse when adequate care is not
received. Families must be healthy before they can attend
school or work. |
|
|
|
The Plan |
 |
|
We will continue to fund the costs to operate the
health clinic at Santa Matilde, including medical
supplies, salaries, and upkeep. We want to expand
the access to information, by
offering classes to families
about healthy living and preventative care. |
| |
|
Experience |
|
Families no longer have to travel a long distance
from their homes to get medical treatment. We have
seen an overall
improvement in the health of the community
members, especially school children. The more
services and information we can offer the community
will result in a more educated population as the
next generation grows to adulthood. |
