Well Drilling |
|
|
|
The Problem |
 |
|
Nicaragua is blessed
with abundant underground water sources, but cannot
afford a public water system. Clean water is not
readily available to poor people and they must travel a
long distance, sometimes by foot, just to fill a bucket.
Some communities use contaminated rivers and wells as
their drinking sources, causing infection, illness and
suffering. Without irrigation, no vegetable crops can be
grown during the six-month dry season each year.

|
OUR Approach |
|
Amigos for Christ has teamed up with Food for the Poor and
American Nicaraguan Foundation to drill 30 wells a year in
Nicaragua. Based on our experience, 90% of the sites are chosen
by Amigos for Christ. We are able to concentrate on drilling
deep, sanitary wells for abundant drinking water and/or for
year-round irrigation of crops. |

|
|
Why |
|
We have been blessed with the resources (drilling rig,
great drill team, etc.) to provide water in many
communities where there would be no other option. Where
there is abundant water, there is health and
productivity |

|
The Plan |
|
We want to partner with other drillers
and install 30 water wells for poor communities. Based
on community needs and the depth of the wells, we will
install either hand pumps or submersible pumps with
storage tanks. |
|
|
|
Experience |
|
We have provided over 60 new water wells to communities
without clean water sources. As a result, each
community member’s life has substantially improved.
There is a decrease of diseases, such as dehydration,
dysentery and skin lesions. Personal hygiene and
cleaning techniques are being reinforced to the families
by our medical staff. Families are able to gather and
transport clean water back and forth to their homes more
quickly, giving them more time to focus on other
tasks. |
