THE
CHALLENGE:
2
out of every 3 children will not complete 6th
grade. Of those that do, very few have the opportunity or
finances to continue their education to high school,
vocational school, or university. |
|
THE APPROACH:
Amigos
for Christ works with the Nicaraguan Ministry of Education
to build primary schools and employ qualified and motivated
teachers. After 1 year, the Ministry of Education
incorporates these schools into the national education
system and assumes financial responsibility for the school.
For those students
that are motivated to continue their education past the 6th
grade, the Amigos for Christ scholarship program provides the
opportunity for them to do so. Following strict guidelines,
these students can attend schools that will prepare them to
earn a living.

Our
Education projects fall into 3 main areas: |
|
|
| School
Construction and Start-up |
 |
|
We build and operate grade
schools for over 500 children in our communities. Students are
given the proper materials to learn and thrive in the classroom.
We employ several certified teachers, who are dedicated to the
success of the next generation of Nicaraguans. |

|
|
| Secondary &
Vocational Scholarships |
 |
|
Amigos for Christ has a
scholarship program to educate both secondary/vocational school
and university students. Since state-sponsored education ends at
the 6th grade, scholarships for tuition, books, and
transportation are necessary to help these hard-working students
study outside their community. Educating Nicaragua’s youth
affords an opportunity for the country’s economic growth. |

|
| Feeding
Programs |
 |
|
We
build and operate feeding centers as an incentive for every
child we serve to attend school every day. Each student is
provided one healthy meal a day, receiving the nutrients they
need to concentrate in the classroom and live a healthy life. |
