Agua for Christ Water Drilling Projects What is our mission? The Agua for Christ well drilling project grew from our awareness that many poor Nicaraguans are the victims of disease simply because they have no access to clean water. Northwest Nicaragua is blessed with abundant underground water sources, but the country cannot afford a public water system. We try to secure the funding and equipment necessary to provide community wells for drinking and irrigation. How is Agua for Christ carried out? Our team is comprised of dedicated volunteers, who care deeply about the poor living conditions in rural villages around Chinandega, Nicaragua. We have been trained by Living Water International, a nonprofit organization in Houston, Texas, to drill wells, install pumps and repair existing equipment. We take regular mission trips to Chinandega to accomplish our mission, often as a part of larger mission groups. While there, we train local crews to carry on the project. At home, we meet regularly to share ideas, plan new projects and find ways to fund our work. What is the urgency of clean water projects? Poor people in some rural areas of Chinandega must travel for hours to reach clean water sources, sometimes by foot. Consequently, some communities use contaminated rivers and wells as their drinking sources. Many children die from dehydration and diarrhea. Families practice poor general hygiene and suffer from painful infections. During the six-month dry season, no vegetable crops can be grown, limiting healthy diet. If the rainy season does not produce enough rain, crops fail. Once a clean water source is established, the living standard of families is enhanced. Irrigation wells allow farmers to grow crops year around, for both consumption and sale. A cooperative spirit is nurtured within the community. How can I help the poor of Nicaragua get clean water? Our mission thrives on fellowship, prayer and perseverance. We welcome donations. You can become an Agua for Christ monthly donor and designate your gift to the Agua for Christ water project. Any amount, large or small, is greatly appreciated. Our first rig was a result of one generous donation of $30,000.00. We could not have proceeded with our mission without that timely gift. Another donor has blessed us with a DR 100 commercial drilling rig that allows us to speed up the drilling process and install clean water wells in the mountainous areas previously out of our reach. We successfully drilled a 340 foot well at Villa Catalina community using this rig. Please contact us at (770) 614-9250 or e-mail info@amigosforchrist.org. We also encourage you to join our team and help us carry out our work hands-on with our brethren in Nicaragua.
